The Quixotic Tales of Jerrick Lim | The Personal and Highly Provocative Ramblings of Jerrick Lim

CAT | Thoughts.

I’m officially in love with this piece of Music. It’s been playing outside my workplace on and off every so often. But wow. This live version is not only beautiful, it resonates with a voice and a haunting vision that I find difficult to even begin to comprehend. Glorious and more than ample proof that Classical Music is not dead.

11 Minutes in Kuching

P1040203

Paulo Coelho’s book 11 Minutes provided the reading for my most recent trip to Kuching. The Cat City. The book told the story of a Brazilian girl, lured by the prospect of money and fame, to the country of Switzerland and Zurich. There she is forced to become a Samba Dancer. A terrible job, until she finds herself along Rue de Berne, Zurich’s Red Light District. What follows is a story of love, self discovery and ultimately, the discovery that Sex, and Love are not the one and the same, but neither are they to be separated from each other, to be dissected individually. It’s intertwined and inseparable, and yet different and should be treated as such.

One of the things I loved about the book was the beauty of the prose, Coehlo uses simple words to convey beautiful meaning, and when he slips into sophistication he makes sure that the reader is taken gently along with him. That makes the reading experience so simple and effective and yet for those who bear to sit down and administer some thought to the diary writings of Maria, and of the interactions she has… you realise, nothing is ever as it should seem, and yet it should always be as simple as love. and desire. and hope that he/she will make you a better person.

Powerful stuff, all in all.
