Mustafa Akyol: Faith versus tradition in Islam

Following from my studies regarding Islamic Law, what surprises me is how rational a lot of the discussion is regarding culture and religion. But also how irrational people get when the assume they’re dealing with something that is not a mirror image of christianity, or any other religion. Islam as practiced is not one all encompassing vision of what religion should be, nor is it one all encompassing vision of how one should lead one’s life, and I think it’s a manifestation of how fixed and unyielding some in the West’s thinking can be on the subject that demonstrates the biases and prejudices against Islam.
