What came before

Atlas

In my immediate previous role, as Legal Counsel at TheAtlas Pte. Ltd. (Atlas), a start-up focussed on becoming the premier low cost carrier aggregator globally, my role has been broad ranging. I covered corporate and contractual matters ranging from negotiations with travel agencies and airlines to pre-acquisition and investment negotiation. Further, my role covered implementation a broad range of compliance and regulatory matters, ranging from data protection to EU passenger protection regulation. I have also been instrumental in managing risk across the entire organisation as well as employment related matters.

FedEx

I was Legal Counsel working at FedEx Express in its Singapore office from 2018-2021, covering the South East Asia region. In my role at FedEx, I was focussed on commercial contract review including IT Contracting for the APAC region. In this capacity, I provided advice the company on several large infrastructural agreements between FedEx and cloud computing vendors. I was also supporting on the implementation of revamped agreements between FedEx and third party “compatible” vendors which provided a suite of APIs allowing customers to integrate FedEx shipping solutions into their e-Commerce workflows, such efforts won me the Bravo Zulu award from the Marketing team.

I also covered real estate and properties matters for the company, negotiating several major leases with among others, large landlords such as the airport authorities of the region, and major REITs based in Singapore and Malaysia. I was also leading review of all marketing materials and covered security and liaison with law enforcement/ tax/ customs authorities.

I was also responsible for contentious matter oversight in the region. Supporting on the full lifecycle of a contentious matter from initiation of litigation up to appeal before higher courts. In this regard, I have been a core part of the legal team preparing and marshalling the resources of the company in relation to litigation in a major South East Asian country, which affects the interpretation of the Montreal Convention and the air-cargo industry.

Separately, I led the instruction of counsel for advice on a potentially pathological arbitration clause and providing advice to all relevant stakeholders on the chance of success in litigation. I also created a program for identifying customers with delinquent payments that would be most appropriately brought to litigation in the courts of Singapore and Malaysia, resulting in recovery of sums in certain cases, and advice for process improvement in others.
